City of Altamonte Springs Announces Facility Closures and Safety Measures Ahead of Hurricane Helene

Wednesday, September 25 – Due to Hurricane Helene, the City of Altamonte Springs is
diligently preparing facilities, parks and neighborhoods for inclement weather. All City offices
and facilities will close Thursday, September 26.

Refuse Collection Update

• As long as Hurricane Helene continues on its current trajectory and windspeeds remain
low tomorrow morning, the City WILL run a normal trash collection route on Thursday,
September 26 and pick up refuse from residences on the west side of I-4.
• Residents who do not place their trash curbside by 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 26,
will not have their trash collected and must secure cans inside while the storm passes.
• The City will not collect special pick-ups on Friday, September 27.
• Residents are strongly advised to store garbage cans and yard waste inside, as well as
any other loose outdoor items that could become projectiles.

City Office Closures

All City offices and facilities, including the Library, will close on Thursday, September 26. The
City will provide additional updates about closures and cancellations once the storm has
safely passed and parks and facilities have been inspected for safe use.
City Program and Event Cancellations
The City has canceled scheduled activities and events starting Thursday, September 26. This
includes: Aquatics, Seniors, Special Needs, Baseball, Softball, Flag Football, Cheerleading,
Basketball, Tennis, Volleyball, Yoga and Library programs.

City Park Closures

The City is closing Westmonte, Cranes Roost, Eastmonte, Merrill and Lake Lotus Parks starting
Thursday, September 26. All park amenities are unavailable during this time including
pavilions, civic centers, meeting rooms, playgrounds, common areas, exercise trails, baseball
and softball fields, pitching lanes and batting tunnels, basketball, tennis, pickleball,
racquetball, bocce and volleyball courts, as well as the outdoor and therapeutic pools. The
Lake Orienta Boat Ramp remains closed.
Eastmonte and Westmonte Parks Are Open TODAY for Sand and Bag Self-Service
The City of Altamonte Springs is providing sand and bags at the following locations TODAY.
• Eastmonte Park
830 Magnolia Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 (off S. Ronald Reagan Blvd.)
Hours: Sand and bags available 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Westmonte Recreation Center
624 Bills Lane Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 (off Spring Oaks Blvd.)
Hours: Sand and bags available 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Residents must bring their own shovel as this is a self-service operation. Each household is
limited to 15 bags. Park rangers are on site for those who require assistance while sandbag
sites are open.

Residents living in special flood hazard areas should monitor the situation carefully. If you
